What to Know About LATCH Ratings

Using the Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children (LATCH) system can make it easier to install child safety seats. While you don't need to use it to install a child safety seat correctly, it is available in most vehicles sold at Anastos Motors. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) conducts LATCH tests to determine how easy the system is to use.

In 2015, the LATCH rating program was created in an effort to create guidelines for manufacturers to follow. Ideally, it will take less than 40 pounds of force to attach a safety seat to the vehicle's tethering system. The anchors should be no more than an inch below the seat bight for easy access.

There should be a clearance angle of at least 54 degrees to make it easier to work around. LATCH systems that meet all applicable criteria receive a good rating from the IIHS.
