Alternator: The Power Inside the Vehicle

Believe it or not, your car's battery is not the source of its electrical power. That job belongs to the alternator, which generates energy to charge the battery and feed the electrical system.

Under the hood, the engine spins wheels that crank a different wheel on the alternator, which generates energy. If the alternator is failing, the first sign could be a warning light on the instrument panel. It may read "GEN" or "ALT," and the light may stay on or show only when other electrical accessories are in use. Other signs of failure include instruments and gauges that suddenly stop working, a burning rubber smell, dim lights or sounds of whining, growling or screeching coming from under the hood.

Anastos Motors can help you determine if your alternator is doing its job properly. Just drop by our auto service department to have your vehicle serviced.
